This narrow street is the best place to find out a wide range of products from Kyoto. Once nicknamed as Kyoto’s kitchen, Nishiki market started as a fish market 400years ago. Kyoto is an inland city and fresh fish was a real treat back then.

Their all-time favorite was HAMO,Common Japanese conger (See FishShop Picture), and Kyotoities sense the oncoming of summer enjoying quality hamo.
Nowadays, bite-sized grilled hamo are sold on skewer, our favorite snack-on-a-stick.
