Yamanashi prefecture, some 120 km from Tokyo, is known for its traditional foods, fruit picking, and wineries. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji while eating delicious, high-quality foods year-long. With the convenience of trains, it’s easy to take a short trip out to Yamanashi to relax and enjoy fresh produce.

1. Fruit
Known for its bounty of seasonal fruit, Yamanashi is the prefecture to visit year round for fruit picking and outdoor fun. Pears, peaches, grapes and blueberries are among the fruits available in season. With great grapes comes delicious wine, another of the products the area is known for. Depending on the season, fresh fruit can be gathered from farms and greenhouses.  Other fruits that can be picked during the appropriate season are strawberries, cherries, apples, and blueberries.

2. Lakeside activities
Yamanashi contains several lakes to be enjoyed year-round. The lakes surrounding Mt. Fuji are known for their beauty and incredible views of the famous mountain. Lake activities include bicycling and running around the lake, as well as water sports within the lake. During spring, the fields surrounding the lakes and Mt. Fuji are filled with flowers for a breathtaking view that cannot be beat.

If the previous reasons aren’t motivating enough to visit Yamanashi, then perhaps the following keyword will be an inspiration: Mt. Fuji. Whether climbing the world-renowned mountain or admiring its beauty from afar, everyone should visit the area when coming to Japan. Special tours are available to visit the fifth level of the mountain, where most climbing begins and stores and restaurants are established for visitors to enjoy.
